Pre-1973 guitars were produced more carefully and ornamentally than the latter ones. There were two generations of Ranger guitars, the watershed year being about 1973. If you're looking for a vintage, affordable but reliable (and playable) 12 string guitar, this one's for you. Many legendary players, among them Jimmy Page, have used these babies for their particular mellow, deep tone and vibe. If you've ever listened to Tangerine by Led Zeppelin then you've already heard this guitar.
check the guitar all over, and buy it if you like it.The Ranger line of acoustic guitars was produced by Eko in Italy during the 60's-70's, it was a very popular model and sold more than 100,000 units (!) during its run. The advice i'm giving is, if you see a cool guitar (from unknown brands too), It looks good and it's not too far away, just go see it. I'm even seeing in this thread that some guitars are good, some bad. So actually, a lot of those pedal really differ from one to another. With pedals for example, the just used the parts they had at hand even if the values are a little off. I have discovered that with this old stuff, products really differ from one to another. This particular one is good, but you can't know how another is. I think you can't say these guitars are bad, or good.
The lacquer has some cracks in it also, but I don't really mind. I think I will leave it for a while and later refret the guitar myself (did it once already). The frets are really worn and they are comming loose at the sides, but the weird thing is. Stays in tune well too! It has one problem though, it needs a refret. And it's Really loud actually, and I like the tone. Because the woman who sold it to me didn't play guitar, it was sitting around and just catching dust. Her ant played guitar frequently and it was her favourite. The woman that sold it to me doesn't play guitar. This one I find much more attractive and it has a little story. It's the same brand and model, but a different year. In the end, I decided to buy another guitar.
Eko ranger guitar 12 string how much full#
Today my 12-string is a Martin J16-12GT - the jumbo body, sitka top and mahogany back and sides give very full bass sound, although I might consider upgrading to a D18-12 one day. I let it go a few years later to partly finance the purchase of my first ES 175D (1958). Globally a good instrument at its price point.
